Daniel Wagner

Software Engineer

C and Linux close to the metal, C# for the backend, applied math and security research, teaching.

Daniel Wagner

About

Systems, end to end.

I am a systems and backend engineer. C is my first language: Linux internals, IPC, sockets, multithreading, programs that talk to the OS directly. C# is my second: .NET services with clean architecture and TDD, in production on infrastructure I run myself. Linux is home: I run, harden, and automate my own servers, not just code on them. Beyond C and C#, I work across C++, Python, JS/TS, and Java at any level of the stack. I graduated the CTI engineering program at the University of Bucharest (2017-2023), an engineer's curriculum from electronics, computer architecture, and control systems up, and I am now a master's student in Coding Theory and Information Storage (TCSI) at Politehnica Bucharest, where coursework turns into security research and applied mathematics. I teach the web application development labs at the faculty I graduated from, on a platform I built. I care about software that is correct, testable, and explainable.

Experience

Where I have worked

  1. Mar 2021 - Jun 2026

    Software Developer

TIGER NAILS SRL, Bucharest (wholesale cosmetics and nail-care products)

    • Built and maintained the company's in-house desktop application in C#/.NET (WinForms): invoicing, stock and inventory, orders, delivery notes and goods receipt notes (NIR).
    • Set up the company's web server from scratch on Ubuntu, Docker containers behind Nginx Proxy Manager with TLS certificates, and ran it afterwards.
    • Started in a team of three (one on the company website, one with me on the application and the server); sole developer by the end, owning both.
  2. Oct 2025 - present

Lab Instructor, Web Application Development (DAW)

Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Bucharest

    • Teach the DAW labs to 90+ students across four groups; author the course materials.
    • Built and operate the course platform end to end: public labs site plus a gated dashboard for attendance, grading, quizzes and project tracking; re-implementing it in .NET 10 + Angular with clean architecture and TDD (production cutover attempted, rolled back pending semester close).
    • Per-student deployment slots on a dedicated VPS, provisioned from the admin UI.
  3. 2023 - present

    Independent Engineer - Production Infrastructure

    danielwagner.ro / student-dev.ro (self-hosted)

    • Design, deploy, and operate ~10 live services across two VPSes: Docker, nginx, TLS automation (Let's Encrypt), PostgreSQL, rsync deploy pipelines.
    • Tested, manifest-driven PowerShell control plane; backups with a drilled, SHA-256-verified restore path.
    • Multi-tenant hosting for ~30 student deployments: per-student Linux accounts, nginx vhosts, SAN certificates, provisioned from a web admin UI on an isolated, sacrificial VPS.
  4. 2023 - 2024

Lab Instructor, OOP (C++) and Web Development in C# (PAW)

Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Bucharest

    • Taught object-oriented programming in C++ and web development in C# (Razor Pages, EF Core, SQL Server, MVC, Web API) by live-coding with the students.
    • Authored full-semester public teaching materials; ran an optional SFML game-development track.
  5. 2020 - present

Private Tutor, Mathematics and Computer Science

    Independent

    • 6+ years of one-on-one teaching: ~60 students from a dozen universities, across ~30 subjects - from mathematical analysis and linear algebra to C/C++, algorithms, Linux systems programming, assembly, cryptography and databases.
    • Distilled the archive into a 17-course online catalogue (187 structured lessons) on my own learning portal.
  6. 2019 - 2020, 2022 - 2023

    Volunteer Peer Tutor (Tutoriat)

Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Bucharest

    • Ran three faculty tutoriat series for fellow students: Special Mathematics (2019-2020), C Programming and Operating Systems (2022-2023) - volunteer, faculty-organized peer tutoring.
  7. 2018 - 2021

    Freelance Software Developer

    Independent, during the B.Eng. years

Teaching

I teach what I build.

Teaching is where everything else compounds: I run university labs, build the platforms my students work on, and turn hard topics into materials people actually use.
